Down the Stretch They Come: The Derby Day Races Are Coming Back To Downtown Wixom

The Wixom Downtown Development Authority (DDA) will hosts its annual Derby Day Races on Saturday, May 3rd at Sibley Park in Downtown Wixom. This event has a race for everyone. Whether you are a serious runner looking for a 10k, or a moderate runner or fast walker searching for a 5k, or just want to stroll along for the 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk, we have a race for you. The Derby Day races will take runners and walkers throughout the scenic Michigan Air Line Trail and beautiful neighborhoods downtown.

The Derby Day Races are also partnering with Camp Casey to support its programs that bring the healing powers of horses to children battling cancers and other life-threatening illnesses. $5.00 from each race registration will go to Camp Casey benefitting programs such as Horsey House Calls and Cowboy Camp Outs, and Outlaw Outings. This is the eighth year partnering with Camp Casey and the Wixom DDA is proud to have raised over $13,000 through the Derby Day Races in that time.

Downtown Wixom businesses are also getting into the Derby Day spirit. Many businesses will open early and offer Derby Day Specials after the race. Runners and volunteers will receive a Derby Day wristband to show at businesses after the race to take advantage of the Derby Day Specials. The fun doesn’t stop there, all registered racers will receive a Derby Day T-shirt (if registered by April 5th), Derby Day Medal, and Derby Day bag.

Registration is open for the Derby Day Races and the Wixom DDA can’t wait to see you on Saturday, May 3rd in Downtown Wixom for this fun, family friendly event. The Derby Day races are stroller and dog friendly as well. All dogs must be leashed and under the owners control.
