Imagine after a long day at work coming downtown to eat dinner, enjoy a Junction Social District beverage, and relax at the West End Commons. This public space will become one that all will enjoy and a third space we all so desire. Many have a third space in their communities whether it is a library, a park, a local bar, or some place they go to gather with friends, relax, and enjoy. The Wixom Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and City of Wixom believes it has created just that, a third space for the community.
The West End Commons has been designed to be a welcoming, accessible public space that residents, visitors, and businesses will come together to play and socialize. This space features three seating plazas with attractive amenities such as Adirondack chairs, bistro tables and chairs, shaded seating areas, chess/game tables, a fireplace feature, public restroom, and an entertainment stage. The Wixom DDA will program the space year round to include children’s programming, daytime lunch concerts, s’mores nights, and other activities.

The Wixom DDA has worked hard to diversify funding for this project. They were awarded a Community Project Funding grant through Rep. Haley Stevens office and a Placemaking and Public Spaces grant through Main Street Oakland County, while dedicating some of their own budget for the project. Having these funds will allow the DDA to bring forth the vision they have had for the the past three years for this space.
Recently, Wixom DDA Executive Director Laura Cloutier and City of Wixom Assistant City Manager Drew Benson were interviewed by Channel 7 News about the space. While the design of the space is complete there some things to come to make this space a reality. The City of Wixom and DDA will issue an RFP or Request for Proposals in the next three to six months. Once bid responses are received and reviewed, the project will be awarded to a contractor, and construction will begin. It is anticipated that the West End Commons will be complete in time for the 2026 Wixom Block Party.

The West End Commons will be an exciting addition to Downtown Wixom. It will be that third space to gather with friends, enjoy activities, and create memories. The Wixom DDA can’t wait to meet you at the West End Commons!
