Wixom’s Social District ‘The Junction’ To Open Later This Year

The City of Wixom has joined the ranks of downtowns like Royal Oak, Clarkston and Oxford, becoming the latest municipality to approve a social district inside its downtown area.

Wixom’s downtown social district, The Junction, is expected to open later this year. Once open, it will allow participating businesses to sell alcohol to-go drinks and enable patrons to drink an alcoholic beverage on sidewalks and public areas within the social district boundaries.

Last summer, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed Public Act 124 into law, allowing local governments to establish social districts in their jurisdictions in an attempt to support bars and restaurants negatively affected by the pandemic. Today, Michigan has over 70 different downtowns with outdoor social districts open.
